There are hundreds of diets invented by different people from all over the world. Following a particular diet as recommend by your dietician or doctor is necessary in order to keep your body weight under control. It is best to select a diet after thorough consultation with your doctor as your doctor will diagnose your case and will suggest a diet accordingly. Today we discuss a very famous diet by the name of Zone Diet.

Zone Diet has been followed by thousands of people in the United States alone besides being followed by people form many other countries as well. Hollywood stars like Demi Moore and Sandra Bullock have benefited tremendously because of Zone Diet. The best advantage of following Zone Diet is that the results are noticed in a short period of time and the results have a permanent effect on the body. The Zone Diet still remains a popular choice for many people along with Atkins Diet and South Beach Diet.

Normally when there is excess insulin in the body, it leads to diabetes. Insulin is an important hormone in the body that helps to absorb the sugars. The body burns fat by limiting the levels of insulin in the body and also maintaining the blood sugar levels. Hence to keep the blood sugar and insulin levels in the body under control, you should get a perfect combination of foods rich in carbohydrates, fats and proteins. Hence you should follow a diet that is low in sugars and fat and high in proteins. Carbohydrates should not be eliminated completely as they are converted into starch in our body and our body needs starch to generate energy.

The Zone Diet is like any other diet that insists on having foods with low fats and sugar content and high protein content. The Zone Diet is also known as the 40:30:30 ratio diet as every meal recommend by Zone Diet should ideally contain 40 per cent of calories from carbohydrates, 30 per cent from protein and 30 per cent from fat. The type of Zone Diet you should follow depends on what are called Zone blocks where each block contains a standardized amount of proteins, carbohydrates and fat. Hence the Zone block that you fall into is calculated by taking into consideration the sizes of the waist, height and waist. It is best to consult your doctor or take advice from the Zone Diet site to see under which block you are.
