The South Beach Diet along with Atkins Diet and Mediterranean Diet is one of the most followed diets by people from different countries. This is because the positive effects of South Beach Diet are guaranteed and long lasting if the diet is followed strictly according to the instructions. In case you would like to follow the South Beach Diet, it is better that you take advice of the dietician. This is because the dietician will make a complete diagnosis of you and then decide if you should go ahead with the diet. The South Beach Diet was developed by a very well known cardiologist from Miami in Florida. The name of the cardiologist is Arthur Agatston. The doctor had formulated this diet especially for people suffering from cardiac symptoms.
The South Beach Diet stresses the points out that the consumption of bad carbohydrates should be avoided at all costs. Also the diet disapproves the consumption of bad fats. The diet is divided into three phases and may last for a few months depending on the case of the patient. The first phase is the most important phase and also the most difficult. Many people give up in the first phase itself after starting the diet with much enthusiasm. In the first phase the dieter has to completely eliminate the foods that are high in sugar and carbohydrates like potatoes, fruits, cereals and grains. The first phase normally lasts for two weeks. As a result the body will start burning body fat when it finds that there are no carbohydrates to burn. As a result the dieter may lose about 10 – 15 pounds in the first phase itself. In the second phase, the dieter is allowed to eat certain whole grain foods and fruits in limited quantities. These two phases help the dieter to control his urge for food in the future. The first two phases are like a battle in the mind. If the dieter is successful in the first two phases then the third phase becomes very easy.
In the last phase the dieter can increase his intake of whole grain foods and fruits. He can have three servings of whole grain foods and fruits every single day. In the first paragraph we discussed about good carbohydrates and good fats. Let’s take a look at what the terms mean. Good carbohydrate foods are very high in fiber content while good fats refer to polyunsaturated and monounsaturated fats.
