The South Beach Diet was discovered by Dr. Arthur Agatston who is a reputed cardiologist in Florida, USA. The doctor has also got a book written by the name of “The South Beach Diet”. The book until now has sold more than a million copies worldwide. The South Beach Diet is specially formulated for those patients who are chronologically overweight. Let’s discuss a little more on the South Beach Diet in the next few paragraphs.

The South Beach Diet is divided into three phases. A person wishing to follow the diet has to complete all the phases one by one to get the maximum benefit from the diet. The first phase of the South Beach Diet spans two weeks. All the phases of The South Beach Diet contain a list of foods that are allowable for the person to eat. People have a wrong notion that the South Beach Diet is essentially a low carb diet. But this is not true. The only difference between a normal diet and The South Beach Diet is the two week period of the first phase of the diet.

The South Beach Diet takes into account the balance that should be maintained between carbohydrates and fats. The South Beach Diet discourages eating of foods that are high in fat content. Similarly carbonated drinks are also a complete no no. The South Beach Diet stresses on the point of decreasing the intake of bad carbs as they slow the metabolism of the body.

In phase one you can you should not eat foods like baked foods, sugar, alcohol, pasta, bread, rice and potatoes. After phase 1 you can include the eliminated foods into your diet in a controlled manner. In phase one you can eat more of meat, fish, eggs, turkey and chicken. In phase two you can start eating limited amounts of foods eliminated in phase one. You can pick up your own choice of foods from the list not included in phase one. Phase 3 or the last phase is the most restrictive. In phase 3 you can follow whatever diet you want but with restrictions that you think are most suitable for you.

The basic idea of The South Beach Diet is to destroy your craving for foods that can do you harm in the long run through obesity and obesity related disorders. Soon you will be happy to know that the South Beach Diet has become your way of life and you have benefited immensely from it.
